This represents a possibility to come back to the professional soccer in Italy. Castellamare di Stabia is located 30 kilometers southeast of Naples, closed to Sorrento.

In an interview with napolimagazine.com, Diego stated: "I am currently training in Castellamare di Stabia. I am trying to reach the best physical fit, since after three months of Beach Soccer, I am not at my best level. I should start well the initial training. This is 2 years after he helped the team to get promoted to the fifth series in the small city in the Naples area.
Reasons for the change are not entirely clear: maybe the fact that Caivanese was last in the ranking, possibly the lack of challenges within his former team, maybe the good relationship with Quarto's president and his good memory of the past.
The crude reality is however that Maradona junior has not yet found his true dimension.

PS: as an aside, it appears from the Italian press that the transfer from Caivanese to Quarto did not take correctly place from a procedural standpoint. This means that Diego jr. will not play until June 2009 in official games.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-54375423288484030882009-01-02T01:08:00.000-08:002009-01-11T10:16:17.202-08:00Maradona jr. plays for CaivaneseAfter his appearance to the beach soccer world tournament in 2008 where he scored in the Final game with Brazil, Diego jr. decided to come back to the "real soccer".
He has the chance to train for few weeks with River Plate's second team in Buenos Aires, Argentina in October 2008, but he finally decided to come back to his root, in a place close to Naples.
He got a job in the sixth Italia football division, playing for Caivanese boys. Caivano is a small (35000 abitants) town near Naples, its stadium holds 1300 spectators and is in artificial turf.

The most famous Caivanese alumn is Ciro de Cesare, who played in first division at the beginning of this century.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-52839545907413277582008-12-31T06:23:00.000-08:002009-01-31T06:15:09.241-08:00NVIDIA Geforce 9600 GT and Linux distributions
If you are coming here by googling, you can definitely find an answer to the question: is the NVIDIA Geforce 9600 GT supported by Linux? The short answer is yes.

As Christmas gift, I got a new NVIDIA Geforce 9600GT, 1GB.
I was quite worried on how to get it working under Linux. My standard Linux install (Mepis 6.0) was for sure unable to support it, since it is an old one (but a very stable one).

After partitioning a new 500Gb hard-disk into 10 pieces, I have decided to give a try to several distros, mainly on the Distrowatch top 50.

DreamLinux (v3.5):
The distro recognized immediately the Geforce, although the 3D effects were not automatically activated into the Live CD. However, a simple "sudo nvidia-install" outside X loaded the drivers and the 3D effects came into play. Additional details can be found here.

Sabayon (v.3.51):
The Sabayon liveCD recognized the Geforce as well as offered the possibility to activate the 3D effects. Well done, zero effort from my side.
However, since I installed Sabayon into the hard drive well before Christmas, I wasn't able to get it working in the Hard Disk installation. It took me few hours to address the issue: "
sudo equo install nvidia-drivers"
fix it and "
fusion-icon"
activates the 3D effects.
The upgrade to Sabayon 4.0 required around 30 hours, but the effort was pretty limited from a brain power perspective. Few glitches (artwork, compiz, xorg.conf) were still there, but it is pretty straightforward to fix them.

Mepis (v.7.92):
2D graphics are loaded

PCLinuxOS (v.):
3D graphics are loaded into the Live CD, a small changes is however necessary to make this happening (from the "PC menu", select System / Configuration / Configure your computer, then go into Hardware / Configure Graphics / Configure 3D effects and select Compiz Fusion)

LinuxMint (v. 6.0) & Ubuntu (v. 8.10):
2D graphics are loaded into the Live CD, the Ubuntu developers have not included as standard the NVIDIA proprietary drivers, a small changes is necessary to make this happening. (From the "Gnome menu", select Control Center / Hardware Drivers and the system automatically proposes a menu to download and install the NVIDIA 1.77 drivers)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-49485196366104674352008-05-18T11:58:00.000-07:002009-01-10T00:50:54.226-08:00Beach Soccer and Maradona jrAs you probably have noticed, Diego jr. has played for Italy at the Beach soccer qualification for the World Cup in Marseille. It was 1979 and I had the chance to watch one of the last Soccer games during a season when Inter won the Scudetto. The opponents were Inter and Pescara and my favorite team won 2 by 0. Inter's coach was Eugenio Bersellini, who became during his career the Football coach of the Libian national team.
I was in the second grade Elementary School.

At that time, the main argument for discussion with my classmates was about Juventus and its "cheating" style. As background for non Italian reader, the Agnelli family owned not only Fiat, the Italian automaker, but also Juventus (by the way, now Juventus is listed in the Italian stock exchange, but it is still partly owned by Fiat). Once upon the time, there was rumors, many rumors, that referees got cars in exchange for favourable "treatments" during soccer games. Rumors, only rumors.

Wikipedia defines cheating as the act "employed to create an unfair advantage, usually in one's own interest, and often at the expense of others." I was too young to define the meaning of "cheating", Internet was not commonly available. In the last few days, after 25 years, I got an impressive example of what cheating signifies. Juventus, or some Juventus managers have adopted very "unconventional" behaviour to favor their team during the last year season.
A great comment about this story is on the Economist website, where the Magazine talks about (a new) Italian Scandal, now called "The Dirty feet".

The main character of this scandal is by far the General Manager of Juventus Soccer team, Mr. Moggi. Moggi has always been considered one of the most controversial soccer manager of the last twenty years, earning the nickname of "Lucky Luciano". In the past, he was also called Mr. Bat («Paletta») since he has been a stationmaster for 19 years, before moving to the Soccer world.

There are so many people talking about him in the last few days, that it is hard for me to say something different and creative. However, the true key (and funny) question of this story has been suggested during one of the last soccer games: why Mr. Moggi had not tried Skype, see below (Source Antijuve website).
My answer is crystal clear: had Mr. Moggi worked for some technology or Telecom companies in Italy, he would have used Skype, avoided wire-tapping and Juventus supporter would have been happy with their 29th title («Scudetto»).

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-1144486911588788432006-04-08T01:48:00.000-07:002009-01-10T00:56:25.534-08:00The last 11 years in Europe...My soccer team, Inter lost last Thusday in the Champion's league in the quarterfinals with Villareal. I was so disappointed about this result, but my anger changes quickly to bitterness after watching the Inter's European failure video, that a friend of mine puts on the web. It is a small video (1 min. 45 sec., unfortunately spoken in Italian) that has been taken from the Italian Sky news tv. The journalist talks about the 4 soccer players who had the chance to help their teams eliminating the "great Inter" in the last 11 years.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-1143223181232349302006-03-24T09:36:00.000-08:002009-01-10T00:57:09.092-08:00Google Finance and the Italian MarketAs indicated by the official Google blog, Google launched this week Google Finance.
I am pretty impressed by the fact that Google was able to use information about companies listed at the Milan Stock Exchange, with plenty of data about them.
This is not so strange since few weeks ago, Google became the official search engine inside Fineco, which is the leading online banking service in Italy.

However, the US version is much more complete with several financial data and graphs, we do not find on the Italian counterpart. Moreover, it is not possible to use the "add portfolio" functionality, since they are not supporting at the moment international stocks.
Hopefully, they will complete the International version soon, even though it is reasonable that we need to wait for 2-3 months.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-1143189524064118232006-03-24T00:19:00.000-08:002009-01-10T00:57:26.636-08:00New Interview for Maradona jr.

I have just heard about a new interview that Diego Armando Maradona jr. has released to the Italian press. He has started training with Internapoli since the beginning of 2006, and he believes he has made the right choice for his soccer career.

Indeed, as mentioned by Carlo Nesti, a famous italian journalist, he has turned down several offers from better teams (for instance, Acireale, in C1 Serie, third division, Lecco, in C2 Serie, fourth division, Angri, in D serie, fifth division.

For a complete background story of Maradona jr, I would recommend you to take a look at Wikipedia.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-1140516474466048152006-02-21T01:49:00.000-08:002009-01-10T01:26:43.607-08:00Totti and the Soccer World CupEverybody here in Italy is really upset about the serious injury that could block Francesco Totti, the Italian Soccer star, playing for Italy at the 2006 Soccer World Cup.
The Roma playmaker got a tackle from behind by Richard Vanigli and twisted his ankle during a game with Empoli.

Initial assessments said the player would not see action again for two or three months.
I am positive that our capitan will recover from that injury and he will be ready for the game, but I am really questioning why Italian referees do not punish with harsh punishements (i.e. red cards) these kind of behaviours.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-1105018278567999192005-01-06T05:23:00.000-08:002009-01-10T01:27:18.055-08:00Maradona jr and Campeoni, CampioniNo surprise: finally Mr. Diego Armando Maradona Jr. has been transferred from Genoa CFC to Cervia. What he said was not clear to everybody. Mr Ian Christon, Football League representative, said at BBC "His comments were misrepresented". Did he say it because of this image? A second question is: should the Fantasy soccer players be rewarded for this "missing goal"?

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-1104865806906037172005-01-04T11:07:00.000-08:002009-01-10T01:35:03.277-08:00Let's give the Inter jersey to this guySomebody has posted this funny story about the funniest Campioni player, Mr. Gullo. Gazzetta claims that Jari has sent to Livorno a fax with his money requests. The team reached the Serie A for the first time since the 60's, has limited budget but is eager to hire this soccer phenomenon. I am sure that Livorno fans will be delighted to see Jari in January. Hopefully he is not injured, as it could be. Mister Yahoo is also waiting for you, Jari....Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6975003.post-1100429141482674982004-11-14T02:42:00.000-08:002009-01-10T01:35:40.828-08:00Campioni, il sogno (Champions, the dream)I am watching a new reality show about Soccer. Ciccio Graziani (World Cup winner in 1982) is the coach.

It is a great game. I am amazed to notice that many Campioni players have their own fans club.

The most popular players are Giuffrida (92 enrollments, with also a second fans club (31) and a third fans club (5)), Alfieri (159) and Francesco Gullo (110), who pretended to have played with FC Basel in Switzerland and in Champions League in 2002 (a funny website explaining what was going on is Francesco Gullo at Basilea, Basel FC!!!), Apicerni (117 enrollments) and Maradona jr.

Other players are: D'Innocenzo, the goalie (76), Emanuele Morelli (58), Claudio Moschino, the most talented player at Campioni (34), Fabio Borriello (108) who has a brother playing in Serie A, Spagnoli (53), who is credited to be one of the three winners, Christian Arrieta (55), a newcomer who arrived to improve the quality of the defence team and is pretty popular (see also Christian's new website, Fabio Maffini (82), Matteo Domeniconi (21), Ciro Olivieri (80), who is now injuried and not available anymore until the end of the soccer season, Gualtieri, the "Cobra" (29), Zoran Ljubisic (5) and Marco Pepe (10). Two Brasilians are also in the team: Mario Bordignon, (3) who already played in the third division in Portugal and the ever-injured Jefferson (5).

I am just wondering why Matteo Bondi has no fans club.
